Fall in Love in the Prairie

February 13, 2025 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm UTC-4

plants in the prairie

We all love the Gottfried Prairie and Arboretum, a hidden gem in Fond du Lac County!  It is a place for visitors to enjoy solitude, quiet time, and observe nature.  The Gottfried Prairie has over 78 identified species of native forbs (flowers)  plus native grasses and sedges.  Most of these species originated from the last prairie remnants around Fond du Lac County

Do you want to create your own small or large prairie?  Or just learn about native forbs, grasses, and sedges?  Join Margie Winter, Friends of the Gottfried board member and native plant specialist, on February 13th from 6:30-7:30 pm to learn more about these wonderful gifts from nature and how you can grow them in your yard.

Prairies provide:

  • Wildlife habitat-home to grassland birds, butterflies and many other beneficial insects.
  • Protect and enhance species diversity.
  • Deep root systems holds soil and supports an abundance of microorganisms.
  • The grass and wildflower root systems help to rebuild our soils.

Location of class:  Maintenance Building (circled on map) on the Fond du Lac County Campus.  Park in the South Parking lot.
